Archolia Chapter 9 - The Physician

The moon is high in the sky by the time Gavin leaves the castle.  In his head, he attempts to recall everything he knows about medicine and he goes over what he did wrong in trying to cure his own family.
He enters his examination room and looks over his charts and journals. What is he missing?  How can he heal the villagers and stop the sickness from spreading?
Though never  a very religious man, Gavin is prayerful as he prepares for bed.  “I pray to thee Watcher.  Please guide me in finding a cure to heal your people.”
Gavin prepares a quick breakfast the next morning and sets out early in his attempt to find the right combination of herbs for a cure.
He gathers what herbs he can out of his garden before preparing to reexamine the suffering villagers.
As he predicted, the villager that he saw the other day is back feeling worse.  Gavin prepares him for a full examination.
He lowers the patient down on the wooden operating table.
Gavin gives the patient a quick once over, attempting to decide on a course of action.
He decides to try bleeding the patient, so he applies leeches to various parts of his body.
Now that the infected blood has been removed, the patient appears weak and lethargic, bringing back memories of Gavin’s own sons.
In this weakened state, Gavin knows that the patient is close to death, unless he does something to increase his stamina and help his body to quickly replace the lost blood.
While the patient is slightly unconscious, Gavin opens his mouth and places a funnel down his throat.  He then pours a potent mix of energy stirring herbs into the funnel.
Gavin watches as the patient slowly comes to.
Gavin raises the operating table…
…and the patient walks away with his symptoms completely gone.
Gavin is excited as he calls in the second suffering villager.
He lowers her on the operating table and repeats the procedures with the leeches, eliminating a substantial amount of her infected blood.
In her weakened state, medication is poured down her throat.
When she rises from the operating table, she feels much better and is so happy that she dances the jig.  Gavin is convinced that he has finally found a cure!
